Losing lies at the heart of human experience and of psychoanalysis. With pain—and even without knowing for certain what we lose when we feel we are losing—this act shapes subjectivity. We lose, and in the space opened by that absence, we represent, reflect, generate new meanings, desire, and rediscover ourselves.

Loss frees us from clinging and rigidity; it creates room for creativity and welcomes transformation. Perhaps loss is also a space of resistance against a world governed by the culture of “always winning.”

This issue invites an intimate encounter between the words of Saudade, Power/Losing: The Place of the Analyst, Losing by Winning. Winning by Losing, and with the images of artists Anamaría McCarthy and Héctor Solari, whose works speak to us as sensitive traces of what has been lost.
